LAPSEDAY.EXE - Calculate Elapsed days and Julian day.
1-OTHR JAN94 ELAPSED DAYS JULIAN DAY ASTRONOMY
FILES: lpsday10.sdn
Author: Dee Software
Registration: See Register.FRM (No $).
LAPSEDAY.EXE will calculate elapsed days, or Julian Day from a
(Gregorian) Calendar date. The Gregorian calendar is the calendar
currently in use in the U.S., and many other countries. A Julian day
is the elapsed days since the beginning of the last Julian Period. The
Julian Period is based on three major cycles. They are:
1) The 28-year solar cycle (every 28 years, the same date falls on the
same day of the week.
2) The 19-year lunar cycle (every 19 years, the phases of the moon
return to the same date of the year).
3) The 15-year indiction cycle (This was used to regulate taxes. To
calculate it, add 3 to the year. Divide by 15. The remainder
[between 0 and 14, inclusive] is the year in the indiction cycle)
A Julian Period is the length of time for all three cycles to coincide
again. Thus, it is the product of the length of each cycle, or 28 X 19
X 15, or 7980 years. All three cycles last coincided on January 1,
4713 B.C. Noon of that date is used to calculate the current Julian
Day. To compute the current Julian Year, add 4713 to the current
Gregorian Year.
LAPSEDAY.EXE is menu driven and easy to use. Enter LAPSEDAY to start it.
The menu offers three options:
1) Calculate elapsed days
2) Calculate Julian Day
3) End
Choose the appropriate option. Option 1 will prompt you for the starting
and ending date, in the format MM/DD/YYYY. The month and day can be entered
as one or two digits. The year can be entered as two or four digits. Option
2 will prompt your for the date. Use the same date format as for option 1.
Option 3 ends the program.
